Start Certification — $58 →Virginia does not rely on federal OSHA to police workplace safety. The Commonwealth runs its own OSHA-approved State Plan, the Virginia Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH) program, administered by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI). VOSH covers private-sector employers as well as state and local government workplaces, and it adopts the federal powered industrial truck standard. For forklift operators in Virginia, that means the training and certification rules are enforced by DOLI — not a distant federal office — and the baseline mirrors what OSHA requires nationwide.
Under VOSH, no employee may operate a powered industrial truck until the employer has trained and certified that operator. Certification is built on three parts:
The employer must keep a written record of each certified operator that includes the operator’s name, the trainer or evaluator’s name, the date of training and the date of the workplace evaluation.
VOSH requires each operator to be re-evaluated at least once every three years. Refresher training must also be provided sooner whenever an operator is involved in an accident or near-miss, is observed operating unsafely, is assigned a different type of truck, or when workplace conditions change in a way that affects safe operation.
Our $58 online course delivers the formal-instruction portion of VOSH-recognized training. It takes about an hour, runs on any phone, tablet or computer, and issues a certificate valid for three years across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Because VOSH also requires hands-on practical training and a workplace evaluation, the employer must complete those final steps on the actual equipment. Our employer “Train-and-Certify” kit supplies the checklists and evaluation forms to document that step and close out a complete, compliant record.
