Start Certification — $58 →Oregon operates its own OSHA-approved State Plan. Workplace safety here is enforced by Oregon OSHA (OR-OSHA), a division of the Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS), which covers both private-sector and state and local government employers. Oregon OSHA adopts the federal powered industrial truck standard (29 CFR 1910.178) through its own rules in Division 2, Subdivision N, at OAR 437-002-0227, so the operator-training requirements below carry the force of state law across Oregon.
Oregon OSHA’s fact sheet is direct: forklift operators must complete classroom instruction, hands-on training, and an evaluation of their competency before operating a truck on the job. That breaks into three parts:
The employer must then certify the training. Oregon OSHA requires that record to include the operator’s name, the trainer’s name, and the dates of both the training and the evaluation. The trainer must have the knowledge, training, and experience to teach and evaluate operators; no outside certification of the trainer is required.
Operators must be re-evaluated at least once every three years. Refresher training is also required sooner when an operator is seen driving unsafely, is involved in an accident or near-miss, is assigned a different type of forklift, or when conditions in the workplace change in a way that affects safe operation. Note one Oregon-specific rule: agricultural employers must provide refresher training every year.
Our $58 online course delivers the formal-instruction portion Oregon OSHA requires. It runs about one hour, works on any phone, tablet, or computer, and issues a certificate valid for three years and recognized across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Because Oregon OSHA also requires hands-on practical training and a workplace evaluation on the actual equipment, those two steps must be completed by the employer. Employers can handle both with our “Train-and-Certify” kit, which provides the checklist and evaluation forms to document the practical training and site evaluation in-house.
From the Port of Portland and the warehousing and tech-distribution corridors around Portland, Eugene, and Salem to Oregon’s wood-products mills, agricultural operations, and Willamette Valley wineries, forklifts keep the state’s freight moving. Getting the formal instruction done up front is the fastest way to put a compliant, ready-to-evaluate operator on your floor.
