Start Certification — $58 →West Virginia does not operate its own OSHA-approved State Plan. Private-sector employers across the state fall under federal OSHA, administered locally by the OSHA Charleston Area Office, and the powered industrial truck standard at 29 CFR 1910.178 sets the rules for forklift operators. (The West Virginia Division of Labor runs a separate program under §21-3A of the state code, but that covers state and public-sector employees, not private industry.) One important exception: coal, metal, and nonmetal mines are regulated by MSHA, not OSHA—if you operate equipment inside a mine, MSHA Part 48/46 training applies instead.
Under 29 CFR 1910.178(l), an operator must complete three connected parts before driving on the job:
The employer must document the result with the operator’s name, the trainer/evaluator’s name, and the dates of training and evaluation, and keep that record on file.
OSHA requires a re-evaluation of each operator at least once every three years. Refresher training must also happen sooner if the operator is involved in an accident or near-miss, is seen driving unsafely, is assigned a different type of truck, or if conditions in the workplace change.
Our $58 online OSHA course takes about an hour on any phone or computer and satisfies the formal-instruction portion of 29 CFR 1910.178. The certificate is valid for three years and is recognized across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Because the standard also requires hands-on evaluation, the employer completes the practical driving check—our employer “Train-and-Certify” kit supplies the checklist and evaluation forms to finish and document that step.
