Start Certification — $58 →South Carolina operates its own OSHA-approved State Plan. That means forklift training is enforced by South Carolina OSHA (SC OSHA), a division of the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR), rather than by federal OSHA. SC OSHA covers both private-sector employers and state and local government workplaces, and it adopts the federal powered industrial truck standard — so the rules mirror federal OSHA while being enforced at the state level.
In South Carolina, an employer may only allow operators who have completed a proper training program to run a forklift. A complete certification has three parts:
The employer must keep a written record showing the operator completed training. SC OSHA requires that record to include the operator’s name, the trainer’s name, and the dates of the training and the evaluation.
Operators must be re-evaluated at least once every three years. Refresher training is required sooner if an operator is seen driving unsafely, is involved in an accident or near-miss, is assigned to a different type of forklift, or if conditions in the workplace change. South Carolina adds one notable rule: agricultural employers must provide refresher training at least once a year.
Our $58 online course delivers the OSHA-compliant formal-instruction portion SC OSHA requires — the knowledge training and written test — completed in about an hour from any phone or computer. Because SC OSHA also requires a hands-on evaluation on the specific truck in your actual workplace, the employer completes that final step on site. Employers certifying a full crew can use our Train-and-Certify kit, which supplies the evaluation checklist and documentation to finish and record that step for every operator.
