Start Certification — $58 →Rhode Island does not operate its own OSHA-approved State Plan for private-sector workplaces. Instead, forklift operators across the Ocean State fall under federal OSHA, enforced locally by the OSHA Providence Area Office. That means one national rule set applies statewide — the Powered Industrial Trucks standard, 29 CFR 1910.178(l) — whether you drive a sit-down counterbalance in a Cranston warehouse or a reach truck on a Providence loading dock.
OSHA requires every powered-industrial-truck operator to complete a three-part training program before operating a lift unsupervised:
The employer must document the training with the operator’s name, the training date, the evaluation date, and the name of the person who conducted the evaluation. Those records must be kept on file and produced if OSHA inspects the site.
OSHA does not set a fixed “expiration” date, but it requires a re-evaluation of each operator at least once every three years. Refresher training is also triggered sooner whenever an operator is involved in an accident or near-miss, is observed operating unsafely, is assigned a different type of truck, or when workplace conditions change. Our certificates are dated to reflect the three-year re-evaluation cycle and are recognized across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Our $58 online OSHA forklift course takes about an hour on any phone, tablet, or computer and satisfies the formal instruction portion of 29 CFR 1910.178. Because hands-on skills cannot be tested through a screen, the practical training and workplace evaluation must be completed on-site by the employer — and our employer “Train-and-Certify” kit gives supervisors the checklists and evaluation forms to finish that step and document it correctly.
