Tulsa Forklift Certification Requirements

Tulsa private-sector operators fall under federal OSHA. Oklahoma has no state OSHA plan for private-sector workplaces, so the federal powered industrial truck standard (29 CFR 1910.178) is enforced directly by federal OSHA across the Tulsa metro. Public-sector state and local government employees are covered separately under Oklahoma’s PEOSH program.

What OSHA requires of Tulsa forklift operators

An employer may only allow operators who have completed a proper training program to run a forklift. A complete certification has three parts:

  • Formal instruction — the classroom or online knowledge portion: lecture, written materials, and a written test.
  • Practical training — hands-on exercises on the same type of forklift the operator will actually use.
  • Workplace evaluation — the employer observes the operator performing the job in the real Tulsa work environment.

The employer must keep a written record showing the operator’s name, the trainer’s name, and the dates of the training and the evaluation.

How often re-certification is required

Operators must be re-evaluated at least once every three years. Refresher training is required sooner if an operator is seen driving unsafely, is involved in an accident or near-miss, is assigned to a different type of forklift, or if conditions in the workplace change.

Where our online course fits in Tulsa

Our $58 online course delivers the OSHA-compliant formal-instruction portion required — the knowledge training and written test — completed in about an hour from any phone or computer. Because OSHA also requires a hands-on evaluation on the specific truck in your actual workplace, the employer completes that final step on site. Employers certifying a full crew can use our Train-and-Certify kit, which supplies the evaluation checklist and documentation to finish and record that step for every operator.

From aerospace manufacturing and aircraft maintenance to energy-sector equipment supply, the Tulsa Port of Catoosa inland waterway logistics, and warehousing along the I-44 corridor, Tulsa keeps certified forklift operators in steady demand.
