Start Certification — $58 →Oklahoma does not operate its own OSHA-approved State Plan. Private-sector employers across the state fall under federal OSHA, administered locally through the OSHA Oklahoma City Area Office (part of Region 6). The Oklahoma Department of Labor provides free OSHA consultation services and oversees safety for state and local public employees, but forklift (powered industrial truck) operator training statewide is governed by the federal standard, 29 CFR 1910.178(l). That means the rules are the same whether you drive a lift in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Lawton, or Enid.
Under 29 CFR 1910.178(l), an operator cannot be certified on classroom study alone. OSHA requires a three-part program before an employee operates a truck on the job:
The employer must document the certification with the operator’s name, the training date, the evaluation date, and the name of the person who conducted the training and evaluation. Training must also be specific to the truck type and the conditions of the workplace.
OSHA requires a performance re-evaluation of every operator at least once every three years. Refresher training is also required sooner whenever an operator is involved in an accident or near-miss, is observed operating unsafely, is assigned a different type of truck, or when conditions in the workplace change. There is no separate Oklahoma renewal cycle—the federal three-year standard applies.
Our $58 online course satisfies the formal instruction portion of the OSHA requirement. It takes about one hour, works on any phone, tablet, or computer, and issues a certificate valid for three years and recognized in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Because OSHA requires hands-on practice and a workplace evaluation on your specific equipment, the employer completes that final step—our Train-and-Certify employer kit gives supervisors the evaluation checklist and documentation to finish certification in-house.
From oil and gas fields and refineries, to aerospace and MRO operations like Tinker Air Force Base and the American Airlines maintenance base in Tulsa, to the distribution centers strung along the I-35 and I-40 corridors and Oklahoma’s agriculture sector, safe, OSHA-compliant lift operators keep Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and the rest of the state moving.
