Start Certification — $58 →Mississippi does not operate its own OSHA-approved State Plan. Private-sector employers and forklift operators across the state fall under federal OSHA, enforced from the Jackson Area Office. That means the powered industrial truck standard, 29 CFR 1910.178, applies statewide — from the docks at the Port of Gulfport to warehouse floors in Jackson and Tupelo — with no separate state rule to satisfy.
Under 29 CFR 1910.178(l), an operator cannot legally drive a forklift on the job until the employer has completed and documented three connected steps:
The employer must keep a written record showing the operator’s name, the trainer or evaluator’s name, and the dates of training and evaluation. OSHA also requires training to be specific to the truck class and the conditions where it is used, so a certificate alone is not enough — the paperwork has to tie the operator to the equipment and the site.
OSHA requires each operator to be re-evaluated at least once every three years. Refresher training must also happen sooner whenever an operator is involved in an accident or near-miss, is seen operating unsafely, is assigned a different type of truck, or when conditions in the workplace change. Our certificate is valid for three years and is recognized across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Our $58 online OSHA forklift course takes about an hour on any phone or computer and delivers the formal instruction portion of the requirement. To complete certification, the employer still provides the hands-on practical training and the workplace evaluation on their own equipment. Employers who need to run that final step themselves can use our Train-and-Certify kit, which supplies the evaluation forms and checklists to document it correctly.
