Forklift Certification FAQ - frequently asked certification questions

Will this course teach me how to drive a forklift if I’ve never driven one?
No, our course only covers required OSHA forklift safety training requirements. If you are an experienced operator then you’ve come to the right place to get your certification good for three years.

How long is the course?
Most students should be able to complete the course in 1 to 2 hours.

How long do I have to complete the course
Take as long as you want. Start and stop when it’s convenient for you.

Who is responsible for making sure I’m certified?
Your employer is ultimately liable to make sure all employees meet all requirements for safe operation as set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. That being said many companies have cut safety training in order to reduce cost so some companies may consider current credentials when hiring. You can’t operate this equipment unless you are certified.

Is your course approved by OSHA?
Our training exceeds OSHA requirements but the Administration itself doesn’t formally approve any training material or company. However, it does provide guidelines for what must be covered and our training material meets and exceeds these requirements.

What countries is your certification recognized in?
Any country that follows the rules set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which include the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Where can I learn how to drive a forklift?

What does Certified mean?
It means you have reviewed the required safety training materials and passed a test with 70% or above. It also means that your employer has performed equipment specific training, done a driving evaluation and reviewed company safety policies.

How long does it take to get my card after I pass the course?
You should receive your card in approximately 7-10 days after passing the course.

If I fail the test do I have to pay to take it again?
No you may take the test as many times as you need to pass the test without any additional charge.
I’m not sure if I need a certification, I only drive a forklift sometimes to help out. OSHA law requires ALL employees that drive a FL at any time to have passed certification training.

I need proof now to show my boss I have passed the test, what can I do?
You can print out your own personalized certificate immediately after passing the test.

Do I need a driver's license to operate a forklift?
No, an automobile driver's license is not required. However OSHA requires all operators to go through safety training and be tested and pass the test showing you understand how to safely operate the vehicle.

Can I operate a forklift if I'm 16?
No, you must be 18 or older to operate a forklift.
